A day in the life of a… mummy nurse!

5/6/2019

I hope you enjoyed the short account of my double life as a mummy and a nurse! Some days, it gets even more hectic as I have to send my children for swimming classes, or go through their homework with them even after a long day at work. However, I do what I can to bond with the children with the little time we have together. It’s all worth it when I see the happy smiles on their faces.

As a primary care nurse working in a polyclinic, I care for those in the community from all walks of life. I enjoy chatting with my patients and learning their life stories during my short encounters with them. My job focuses on health education, preventive care as well as provision of treatment.

Once, I had a five-year-old patient who was howling in the clinic – he refused to let any of us near him for his injection! It took quite a lot of coaxing from us before we could proceed. That was why it came as a shock when he hugged me and said “I love you, auntie” after the injection! Incidents like this warm my heart and leave me with a sense of fulfilment.

I am Rina Foo, Senior Staff Nurse at Toa Payoh Polyclinic. Here’s wishing all mummy nurses a happy Mother’s Day!
